Season Started

Balls were bouncing at Knott Arena earlier today.

Rims were rattling.

Jump shots were floating through the air.

The Mount was back in action.

The college basketball season officially started today with the start of practice around the nation. Some schools have the Midnight Madness deal - sort of delaying the getting down to business part of the whole thing.

No such waiting for the Mountaineers. It was all business.

The Mounties are in Norman Oklahoma - four weeks from tomorrow - in the finale season for Jeremy Goode, Kelly Beidler and Will Holland.

I can't wait.

Good ranking, perhaps as high as 58 nationally. Too bad Raven Barber did not qualify; he is a player. Mount added a 6'4" guard from Maine, but the keys to what could be will be having the backcourt play as they can and getting some production from the 4 and 5.

  2. There are plenty of offensive weapons. And you have to expect the defense to be a constant.

Rankings don't matter much at this time of year. It's all about performance during the season.

I'm excited to see how they perform against real competition. Hopefully, some of the early games will gather some TV coverage.

What is missing is muscle. The loss of Wells at least till January is another blow. But there are plenty of good players and very good coaching. Also, the training is greatly improved over years past.

Is the guard from Maine a walk-on or a scholarship player?

  5. The kid from Maine is acutally from Massachusetts. He prepped in Maine. No big deal.

He's got a good body frame. Passes the look test.

As far as I know he is a walk-on.

Rebounding will be the key for this team. Defensive stops don't end with missed shots, they end with possession of the basketball.
