St Francis wins in Emmitsburg

The Terriers won 61-58 over the Mount on Thursday Night in an NEC game at Knott Arena.

The effort seemed very uninspired from the Mount. Shooting both from the floor and the foul line doomed the Mount.

Kelly Beidler had another solid effort with 15 points and 8 rebounds, while Jeremy Goode became the school's all-time assist leader with 9 points and 7 assists.

I'll have some more tomorrow, but it was far from impressive.

There was absolutely nothing positive to take away from this game. And if you try and spin it any other way, you're just kidding yourself.

    Dead crowd, dead performance.

Gotta love the patented Milan Brown end of a close game timeout where he lets the defense get set and then the Mount comes out with no semblance of an idea what they want to do.

In the seven years I've been watching the Mount led by Milan Brown, his end of game timeouts have had productive results approximately 0 out of 62 times. Although it is about a 50/50 split between them getting off a truly awful shot or just not getting a shot off at all.

I'd love to see a Mount post-game interview where a reporter asks Milan Brown about their chances about making the NEC playoffs. A Jim Mora type response would be in order ..... "PLAYOFFS! Don't talk about PLAYOFFS!!! You kiddin me?
PLAYOFFS?!?!?!? I just hope we can win a game."

Well said "anonymous." I'd like to say we are overreacting as a result of the game being fresh in our minds, but sadly I do not think that is the case.

As this season gets further along I am beginning to realize that this team is just not very good. St. Francis's 2-3 zone completely stifled the Mount offense tonight. This is not the first time a zone has caused us to struggle and I don't think it will be the last.

Jeremy is great at beating his man against a man to man defense but his penetration is almost useless against a zone. If he shoots he gets blocked and if he passes it is to subpar three point shooters.

I'm really at a loss for how the Mount should combat this. There half court offense is just pathetic as a result of having no pure shooters. I thought Cajou qualified as one, but not this year, I've given up on Holland ever being one, and despite Biedler making an occasional three, he is not a shooter. Unless we get transition buckets this team is just not going to score enough points to win.

It will be interesting to see what happens from here, but I think the best we can hope for is qualifying for a bottom 4 spot in the NEC playoffs and getting hot at the right time.

  3. Unfortunately, the Mount just hasn't been able to build off its trip to the big dance. They've graduated some quality players from that championship team but they really haven't brought anyone in since then. It also doesn't help that their travel partner is a godawful Wagner squad. Teams can overlook Wagner, focus on beating the Mount and end up with two W's.
