Will Holland scored 25 points to lead Academica to 76-71 win over previously unbeaten Porto Ferpinta. Holland made 9-of-13 shots from the field in his professional debut in Portugal. He knocked down a pair of three pointers and was 5-of-6 from the foul line. The former Mount wing also had 5 rebounds, 4 steals and an assist in the victory.
Tommie Eddie (Ole Miss) had 19 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
In defeat, Gregory Stempin (Toledo) had 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Carlos Andrade (Queens NC) added 15 points 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

ReplyDeleteLet me see if I can describe how I feel about Holland. The first thing I want to remember is how he lit it up as a freshman with the good touch.
ReplyDeleteThen I remember the last season and a good effort for some of the year, some tough rebounding and an occasional good shooting game.
So for me overall - a mediocre occasionally exciting player.
I try not to think of "black" and "white". It never leads to anything good in descriptive writing.
I guess Holland, like so many others who have some modicum of success at small schools, is simply not the world beater we all wish many of our former players were.
If he succeeds in Portugal's capital better than his record at MSM, hooray for him; I certainly wish him well.
Actually Harry, I agree with you. Holland is not really that good, never was. Just had a few streaky big scoring games. Heck, he never even hardly said a word or showed any emotion that I can remember. Oh, he did wave to the crowd when being introduced on senior day. Goode was slightly overrated too. He was not a bad player, but he was nowhere near as great as many sports journalists wrote about him. I know you disagree, but Beidler was a leader sometimes and a super athlete. He had an attitude problem and an inflated ego though. Many times he was more worried about his machismo than playing fundamentals. He thought he was God's gift to women. I do not know why so many men act like they are king or better than every other guy. If they'd only realize that for nearly everyone, there is a replacement. If they'd realize that there are guys in the world better, smarter and sexier than they are. Too many just think that they are unique and that there aren't millions just like them. People in general need to realize that they are not so head and shoulders above everyone else, and this country would be a better place. Maybe Beidler got it from his mom. Yeah she was rather sexy, but there are others that are too, and others that aren't as promiscuous as well. Oh well, enough with the small talk. Let's just hope that Burke pulls in a Melvin Whitaker or Greg Harris caliber player soon so people like me do not have to focus on things such as a player's personal life. On another note, why can't the mount schedule more closer to what Quinnipiac and the northern NEC teams do? Are they poorer or greedier than the rest of the schools? I also miss the Baltimore Beltway Classics and the good old Mount Christmas tournaments. Heck, they even have a hotel now in Emmitsburg, something that made it difficult for visiting teams before when they had to stay way in Gettysburg or Frederick.
