  1. Hey Raff or anyone....So just how good is the league that this Graves dude plays in? From the appearance of the team picture, it seems as though most of the players are white. I sure hope he doesn't play in some pansy azz, affluent suburban kid league, or he doesn't deserve the hoopla. I know y'all don't like the tone and the words I use, and yes, I apologize. Does this Graves dude deserve the hype he has been getting in here, just based upon that one big scoring outburst? Or is there more to it than that? I would really like some more insight as far as the level of ball he plays in and whatever else y'all can provide. Thank you.

  2. I can add some insight on your question...Graves entered into the Varsity program as a starting freshman. His sophomore year he had a triple double in the State Semi-final, averaged a double double as a sophomore and increased his average and had another double double his junior year. He won the state championship as a sophomore and junior (back-to-back), was named First Team All District as a sophomore, junior, and senior, First Team All Regions as a sophomore and junior, First Team State Tournament as a sophomore and junior, First Team All State as a sophomore and junior, and PLAYER OF THE YEAR as a senior. He had 44 points, 31 rebounds, and 12 blocks in a highly competitive game. He has over 1000 career points, over 900 career rebounds, and over 600 career blocks. He is a mentor, leader, and motivator on and off the court. He is not perfect but he will give you 100%+.

  3. Saw Graves play and have also followed his progress for some time. He has a real chance to do well at MSM.

  4. Thank you very much Dulles and John!!! I have not had a chance to delve into the exploits of Mr. Graves. I been too busy with school and sightseeing in Florida and here in South GA since I moved last year. I really had not heard much about Potomac Falls High or suburban NOVA high schools until this. Thanks for the insight.

  5. To answer your question Richard b/c I don't think either did....the AA Dulles is pretty competitive but still no where near the biggest group in VA (AAA). The Dulles district does have some pretty good individual talent but it is not even in the same hemesphere as great DC leagues like the WCAC. I saw Graves play against a good AAA team on Osbourn and he was fairly impressive. I would not expect hime to come in and start producing anything special right away.

  6. LB Smith,

Thank you immensely for providing me with the 'true' word, and not sugar coating things with wishful thinking. I really respect a person who is more in tune with reality in life. I definitely had an inkling that this Graves was not going to come in and be the superstar these dudes are.

  7. LB,

My response cut off prematurely. What I meant was, these 'fans' here have been touting Graves like he is some bigtime ACC/Big East type talent. However, I thought if he was that good then why isn't he going to one of those schools? I mean damn, at least he would even be getting paid more to go to one of those schools. So, do you think Graves will be a solid 10ppg scorer by his junior year? Also, is his background similar to Raven Barber's? in the minds of many, both Graves and Raven would appear to come from 2 similar areas- suburban Bmore and DC. However, Edgewood, where Barber is from, has a lot of inner city urban-style housing(projects somewhat). Usually the best talent comes from that environment too. I was not really aware that NOVA had many areas like that, except around Woodbridge. So, is Graves' environment similar to the 'hard knocks' style in parts of Edgewood? That is the type of insight I want. It doesnt matter if a dude averages 40 a game. if he plays in a pansy azz suburban section, then he won't compare to the real good ones. Money yet again does not make one a better performer by far.

  8. Richard,

The area in VA that Potomac Falls is in couldn't be anymore different than where Barber is from. Loudon Co is a really fast growing county and is a very nice area. Not to stereotype but most of the players in the AA Dulles district of white. The best team this year in the district I belive starts 4 white kids. Overall I think by his junior year he could be a 10ppg type player but who knows. I hope he amounts to something great but I would say he is coming here with the same type of hype that Kelly Biedler did from VA as well.
