Chazz Peterson holds Mount Offer

Trenton, NJ guard Chazz Peterson currently holds an offer from Mt. St. Mary's according to www.nbebasketball.com. Peterson plays his AAU basketball with Team Philly. The 6-3 shooting guard appears to have a good jumper, which is becoming a constant in Robert Burke recruits, but he also gets into the lane and runs well in transition.

We had heard the Mount was in on some good players but hadn't really heard any names. Now some of the names are becoming apparent.

NBE's report from Phoenix.....

A pair of talented players displayed their many talents over the two days for Team Philly, with guard Chazz Patterson (2012) and forward Brandon Taylor (2012) both playing well. Taylor’s basketball influences (guys he studies) include Dirk Nowitzki and Antonio Pena, and with his ability to knock down three-pointers it’s easy to see why Taylor would watch the recent NBA champion.
Schools in attendance for Team Philly’s win over the DC Assault 17U team (who was without Nate Britt, who sat out with what appeared to be an ankle injury) includedGeorgetown*, South Florida*, Alabama*, Maryland*, Virginia*,Stanford*, Boston University*, PittsburghDePaulVillanova,North CarolinaXavierClemsonMiamiVirginia Tech,WisconsinHofstraPenn StateSienaRiderTempleFairfieldand St. Bonaventure.
Chazz Patterson currently holds offers from Boston University, UMBCMount St. Mary’s and Rider.

Here is a 2009 report from recruitrecon.com

Chazz Patterson (2012, 6-1 SG)
Chazz is a lanky guard with a quick handle.  He had a left handed finish in transition.  He used several fine spin moves to free himself.  Chazz picked up a steal and scored on the break.  He had a nice drive and dish play and he putback his own miss too.

Siena to visit ARCC

I knew the Saints still owed a return trip. Just wasn't sure if they had bought it out or what exactly had happened. Well it just got pushed back a year. So as the schedule seems to come into vision, it actually looks like it might be a pretty good home slate.

This game is scheduled for Saturday November 19th.

Devereaux Manley to visit Mount

According to www.nbebasketball.com California guard/forward Devereaux Manley will visit the Mount in August. Manley has been gaining interest during the recent open period and the fact that he'll visit the Mount is a crucial factor. At 6 foot 4 inches Manley seems to be a combo guard who handles the ball very well can get into the lane and also knock down the jumper. As a junior at Castlemont High School he earned OAL 2nd team honors in the Oakland area.

- Team 94 teammate Devereaux Manley displayed his versatility on both ends of the floor in their win over the Worldwide Renegades, even guarding the powerful Charles Mitchell for large stretches of the game. Kent State, Quinnipiac, Monmouth, Mount St. Mary’s, UC Davis, UC Riverside and a number of WCC schools are on his current list. He’ll be taking visits to Kent State, Mount St. Mary’s, UC Davis and UC Riverside next month.

The perimeter shot needs work (it’s almost more of a set shot right now) but his ability to beat guys off the dribble and see over defenders opened things up for players such as Devereaux Manley (2012), who was arguably the best player on the floor.
Manley displayed a diverse array of skills, knocking down perimeter shots while also getting to the hoop off the bounce and even making a few back to the basket moves. He’s also a good defender who can take on a variety of assignments, even guarding interior prospect Charles Mitchell for large stretches of the game.

Parker helped to introduce Chris Doleman

This tidbit is taken from the York City website and is a quote from a speech that York Mayor C. Kim Bracey made on this past April 12 on the State of the City of York. It may shed some light on Parker's scholarship status.

Helping me present the White Rose Hall of Fame Award, I will ask Kelvin Parker to take the stage.

Mr. Doleman is a former American Football defensive end that played in the NFL for the Minnesota Vikings, Atlanta Falcons, and San Francisco 49ers from 1985 to 1999.
Mr. Doleman was an 8 time Pro Bowl selection and a 3 time First – team All – Pro while playing in the NFL, recording 150 and half career sacks.
Currently, Mr. Doleman has been focusing his efforts on the importance of service to the community by launching Chris Doleman Pro Auctions, which is an online service that integrates social media and fundraising by hosting online auction events for all levels of charity, foundations, and non - profit organizations.
Mr. Doleman states that he lives by three principles:

Penn State also on schedule

Per a Penn State coach Patrick Chambers tweet, the Mount will return to the Bryce Jordan Center again this year. If memory serves me correctly, that is three straight years with the Nittany Lions on the schedule. Might be three out of four. Mount has come close in Happy Valley but never gotten the win. Still remember the day they led at halftime at old Rec Hall with Chris McGuthrie as a freshman - hitting from everywhere. But the taller guard/forward Keith Jennings? played Chris Mac in the second half and the Mount lost in a close one. Tailor Battle's long range three beat the Mount last season.

Here is Chambers tweet....

American game officially on the docket

AU hoops keeps it local | Kevin Dunleavy | Cheers & Jeers | Washington Examiner

The American Game is officially on the schedule - and at Knott Arena to boot. It's not before Christmas and it might mess up your Military Bowl/Holiday Bowl viewing. But it's good to see it confirmed and scheduled on December 28th. Time is still to Be Announced.

Tids and Bits

There isn't a real whole lot going on right now - at least not newsworthy stuff. This is/was a very crucial time in the recruiting game. I heard from some good reliable sources that the Mount was out working extremely hard and was in on some very good kids. Now the key is to convert on those contacts and get a few of them playing at Knott Arena.

As far as the incoming class goes, I think there are still a lot of questions. Prescott is probably the only real known factor. He played very well for an improving Marist team in the MAAC, and was solid most of the year. We have no idea what happened to his minutes at the end, but we assume that is why he transferred.

Rashad Whack is a guy who people rave about his talents. But for whatever reason it didn't work out at Mason. This could be an extremely good fit for him with the situation he'll come into and the philosophy that Coach Burke employs.

Both of those guys are ineligble this year due to transfer rules.

Chad Holley and Taylor Danaher are the reported scholarship players. Perhaps I missed it, but Holley has never been formally announced by the school. And with the transfers and Danaher coming in, I just wonder if there is something I'm missing there. Perhaps not. Holley is a NY guard who spent a year at a prep school and should fare well in this conference.

Kelvin Parker is York High School's all-time leading scorer. He's enrolling at the school this fall. The York newspapers reported Parker's commitment and signing at the Mount as if it was a scholarship event. Sources close to the Mount have told me that Parker will not be on scholarship this year. Makes me think he's something of a "recruited walk-on" and could be a red-shirt candidate. But that is all purely my speculation. Either way Parker was a total dominant force at the high school level and area high school coaches expect him to have a very good college career.

As far as the schedule is concerned. I really know nothing but it isn't for lack of trying. So I'm going to let you know again what I do know, what I think is there and what could possibly fill it.

What I know: The Mount opens the season November 11th at Marquette. The Mount plays two NEC home games in December - versus Long Island and St. Francis NY. I believe the dates are 12/1 & 12/3. The longtime series with Loyola is continuing - and that game will be at the ARCC.

What I think: Pretty sure that the Mount is not part of an exempt event this year, so the schedule will shrink by 3 games. There are still a few unknown exempt spots out there, but they are dwindling, so it doesn't seem likely at all. I expect the Navy series to continue, which would be in Annapolis. Albany owes the Mount a game, so I expect to see them. I also have a hunch that American will stay on the schedule, but I'm not so sure about that. *UPDATED - Per the Washington Examiner, the Mount will host American on December 28th, TBA.

What could happen: If I am right about the above it would leave the Mount with 5 open games. I'm expecting the Vermont and Niagara series to end - and I know the Mount was looking for a home and home series to start in Emmitsburg. There is also that game from two years ago that Siena never returned. If it doesn't happen this year, I'll stop talking about it. It wouldn't surprise me if Princeton makes an appearance on the schedule in the near future. There are still three large money games that would need to be replaced or renewed. Or possibly switched with a game with a more competitive team.

Also I got a nice email from a reader, always like those and you can reach me at thefanblog@gmail.com, stating that he wasn't sure if I ever mentioned that Karon Abraham, Robert Morris' star and the NEC newcomer of the year two years, was suspended for the entire 2011-12 season. Not sure I ever did mention it, but if I did, let's mention it again. Abraham, who missed four games in 2010-11 due to team rules violations, will be gone for the whole season this year for the same type of infractions. Be interesting to see if he ever plays another game for the Colonials. Robert Morris opens the season at St. Peter's.

Lacrosse: Bowen looks to build USC program - Penfield, NY - Penfield Post

Lacrosse: Bowen looks to build USC program - Penfield, NY - Penfield Post

Mount loses another Lax coach to USC.

Probably wasn't a big surprise to those who really follow things. Hilary Bowen was brought on by Munday before she left for USC. So Bowen just waited until after the season to make the move.

Kearse signs in Romania

Former Mount guard Mychal Kearse has played all around the world since his graduation. But last year he was left without an overseas job. And it seemed like potentially his career was coming to an end.

But Kearse kept his dream alive. He continued playing in the UBA with the Dallas Stars. The UBA is basically a league designed to allow foreign scouts the opportunity to see talent play. Kearse excelled there and has landed a spot on the CSU Atlassib Sibiu roster for 2012. It looks like he'll join fellow American Bobby Howard (Montana State) on the roster.

Recent Mount graduates Kelly Beidler (IR/Iceland), Jeremy Goode (Penafiel/Portugal), Will Holland (Academica/Portugal) and Markus Mitchell (Isabella/Puerto Rico) have had success as professionals playing on foreign soil.

We expect that Shawn Atupem and potentially Jean Cajou could join them this year. At The Fan Blog we will attempt to track their progress. Many overseas players bounce from one place to another year in and year out, so we will try to update you on any signings as soon as we know about them.

Mount Lands Another Transfer

Coach Robert Burke and his staff have added another talented transfer to the basketball roster. Former George Mason guard Rashad Whack will join the Mount and sit out one year before becoming eligible to play. As previously reported on The Mount Fan Blog  former Marist wing Sam Prescott will also join the equation at the Mount.

The former Bishop McNamara (same high school as former Mountaineer Charles Cook) never really fit into the rotation at Mason. He played just forty minutes in the Patriots final 13 games last year. But he was heavily recruited out of high school, including an offer from the Mount at that point. Finished high school career with 1100 points, 4th all time at McNamara and set school record for three-pointers. Was rated the top shooting guard prospect in the CAA by Rivals.com out of high school and ESPN.com ranked him 59th at his position.

He's highly talented and can obviously shoot the basketball. That shoot fit very well into the system that the Robert Burke wishes to implement at the Mount. He is something for Mount fans to get excited about assuming his three years of limited activity won't have a negative effect when he becomes eligible in November of 2012.

Of note, to Mount fans. The Mount will play home games with Long Island Dec 1 and St. Francis NY Dec 3. Mark your calendars.

Upper Marlboro Hoopster Following Dad's Path - Upper Marlboro, MD Patch

Here is a story on Dave Golladay and his similar path to his father.

To me Golladay was one of the surprises of the 2010-11 season. After sitting out all of 2009-10, I didn't expect Golladay to start 30 of the 31 games.

He is a tough defender who does a lot of real good things on the basketball court. It will be nice to see him develop the next three years.

The one thing I'd like to see is some added range on the jump shot. He makes the ones he takes, but doesn't seem to have the extended range to knock down the three-pointers.

Top Moment No. 18: DiBartolo Becomes All-Time Career Saves Leader - Mount St. Mary's

Here's the 18th best moment in Mount sports this year according to www.mountathletics.com.

T.C. DiBartolo became the all-time saves leader for the lacrosse program during a game this season with Georgetown.

Always a soft spot for the keepers at The Fan Blog, but when somebody has done something more than anybody else in the history of the program it gets a tip of the cap and a standing O from The Fan.

It also excites us as to what is to come in the next few weeks.
