It's late, so this is going to be real quick, but the Mount got a huge win in DC tonight. Cousy nominee Jeremy Goode scored a career high 29 points, 22 after a dreadful offensive first half for the Mounties, as the Mount rallied from down nine in the second half to steal a 57-52 win on the road over the defending Patriot League champion American Eagles. American is projected to win the Patriot again this year and is currently ranked #21 in CollegeInsider.com's Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Mount fell out of the poll this week, but was 26th as it was the top vote-getter in the Other receiving Votes category.
Goode was sensational. Shawn Atupem gave the team some quality inside play in the second half. Jean Cajou did not have a great game offensively, but his defense on Garrison Carr was one of the keys to the victory. Kelly Beidler collected a lot of key rebounds and hit another big three-pointer. Markus Mitchell and Sam Atupem did a good job on the boards.
It was the war I expected, the win I was hoping for, but still it was a surprise and after the first half, which was 24-17 at the break, I didn't have a lot of confidence.
But the Mount made American play its game in the second half. When the Mount played AU's game, the Eagles won that half by seven, but when the Eagles had to play the Mount's game the Mount won by 12. Hence, the Mount won the game.
This is a busy week. And a tough week. The Mount gets to enjoy this until the bus gets back to Emmitsburg. Thursday night the team faces Sacred Heart in a rematch of the NEC final from last year.
But this one was fun. A great win for the Mount. Enjoy it Mount fans.
