Tids & Bits

I'm still trying to figure out the Matt Holliday deal. It just doesn't make sense to me. The A's can't possibly be thinking of resigning him can they? And it's not like they are close to contending this year are they? So why do they make the play for him.

I'm sure its still not too late to make my National champ pick is it? That's right I'm taking North Carolina. The reason? No team has ever eliminated the Mount from the tournament the year before, and not won the whole thing the next year. It worked for Michigan State and Kentucky before. So the Heels are a cinch.

I'm a little suprised that Syracuse hasn't dismissed Greg Robinson yet. I think now that it is mathematically obvious, that the Orange won't make a Bowl game, there is no longer any reason to wait. However, I think maybe they are trying to get him through the home season before making the announcement. So Monday might be the end. Also, it could be a courtesy to Randy Edsall, who has to be under consideration, leading up to this week's game not to make the distraction too large.

Two names, I haven't heard bantered around that I'd like to. Steve Mariucci and Cam Cameron. I think both of them would make sense for this opening. It would sort of carry on the west coast/NFL offense that the team has tried to build the last four years, and now has started to have limited success with. And both guys have run college programs and then gone to the NFL. Coming back to the college ranks has always led to success for guys. Butch Davis, Rich Brooks, Nick Saban and Mike Riley just to name a few.

So what about the Orioles new uniforms? You like them? I guess I like the idea of Baltimore on the chest, but I don't see the big deal. I want to see wins. Last year seemed to be a step in the right direction, but it still ended the same way. I'm excited about Wieters and the rest of the young kids on the way, but I still think the pitchers are at least a year away. Next year, probably won't be much better.

Did you see some of those bowl matchups? It's likely that three conferences, the Big 12, the SEC and the Big Ten won't fill all their bowl alignments. So now you'll see extra teams maybe Stanford or Rutgers from BCS conferences, but mainly teams from the MAC or Conference USA or even the Sun Belt filling slots. That doesn't make for real exciting television. I mean I saw one projection for the Independence Bowl (which is usually a good game in primetime) which has Florida International versus Akron. Yikes.
