NCAAB - Game #22 - Vanderbilt vs West Virginia - Puerto Rico Tipoff

ESPN GameSite

You've got to love the fact that there is basketball on at the lunch hour. Good stuff.

Looks like Jon Sciambi hasn't missed too many lunch lines.

Vanderbilt started this game well with a traditional three-point play. An emphatic three-point play off a big dunk inside. And then the second time down the floor John Jenkins buried a three. Much quicker start for the Commodores than we saw against Nebraska yesterday.

If memory serves me correctly regarding this tournament, the upsets usually come in the second round. Today. That would mean maybe we can expect Vanderbilt to do well here.

Breaking News - Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl suspended eight games by SEC. First 8 conference games.

West Virginia is really getting on the offensive glass early - keeping alive a couple of possessions to score points. And with some early foul trouble inside for the Commodores that could be something to keep an eye on.

1stMTO - 10-8 in favor of West Virginia.

2:42pm - Casey Mitchell and John Jenkins are having a shootout. The Commodores have rallied consistently all afternoon and Mitchell's three-pointer with 1:50 left tied the score. Mitchell leads the 'Eers with 28, while Jenkins has 27 for Vandy.

2:52pm - Mitchell who has had a career day with 31 points, just buried a three-pointer with :04 left to give WVU a 74-71 lead. Mitchell averaged 3.7 points a game last year for WVU.

2:55pm - No more heroics for the Commodores. It's a final and West Virginia wins on Mitchell's three and his big day. The Mountaineers are onto Sunday's final and will face the Carolina/Minnesota winner. A second final for the Big East in these exempt tournaments.
