The Word on Washington

As we noted earlier in the day, the Mount has its first commitment of the 2010-11 recruiting season. Jalen Washington out of Pflugerville Texas, Hendrickson High has committed to the school. We assume he will ink his letter of intent during the early signing period.

The 6-4 shooting guard had a fine junior season and attracted the interest of some big name programs. Texas Tech, Alabama, West Virginia and Bradley had apparently shown interest in the guard. We are still trying to find a list of schools who had offered.

Washington averaged 16.7 points per outing last season and was named District 25-4A MVP. He was also selected to the TABC all-Region team and was a third team All-Central Texas selection by Mount assistant coach Matt Henry with his Texas connections is believed to have handled much of the recruitment.

To compliment the scoring average, Washington collected better than 8 rebounds a game while averaging more than 3 assists and steals each outing. His team finished the season 20-15 last year.

Per Recruiting....
Washington is a versatile guard. Jalen is a long armed, lanky, two guard that can help with ball handling responsibilities. When slashing to the rim off the dribble, he likes to finish in traffic with his left hand, even though he is right handed. Jalen moves well without the ball to create scoring opportunities. He has a nice shooting technique and elevation on his jump shot and has the ability to knock down tough jump shots. From the guard spot, he does a good job of rebounding the ball on the defensive end of the floor and breaking out to start the fast break. Jalen needs to improve his passing skills on the move and decision making on drives.
It sounds like a good get for the Mount. Somebody who can probably double on the outside between the wing and the shooting guard position as it sounds like he has solid rebounding abilities.

  1. We have had some decent luck with Texans haven't we.

  2. Another hint on recruiting: Watch the player's feet! Speed wins. Check the films on Jalen.
