Texas struggled a little bit early on, but in the end Navy was no match for Texas as the Longhorns blew open a close game late in the first half and outmanned the Midshipmen 83-52.
Jordan Hamilton was the big performer for Texas with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
Mark Veazey had 14 points 8 rebounds and 5 blocks for Navy, which had a lot of trouble generating offense and scored just 20 points in the first half when they shot 23%.
Navy which appears on the Mount schedule at Knott Arena later this year shot just 30% from the floor. Departed was Chris Harris who took so many shots for Navy last year and the offense never seemed to click without him. Jordan Sugars, a preseason All-Patriot League selection, was 3-of-14 from the floor including 1-of-8 from behind the arc.
Texas plays Louisiana Tech in Austin on Wednesday before facing Illinois in the semifinals of this tournament next week. Navy will play three more games in this tournament all at Cal-Irvine. Not only will they face the Anteaters, but they will play La Tech and Seattle.
