View from my Couch - Friday Night

Here are thoughts from the games I'm watching

College Hoops

Dayton vs Villanova - The Wildcats found a way to win again in Puerto Rico. The Cats probably haven't been as good as they can be. They've played two games on the island and have gotten more than they expected. Villanova actually led big early today, but let Dayton (which is a good team) get back into it late. Than 'Nova really executed well down the stretch and pulled away for the win. They'll play for a title on Sunday versus the Kansas State - Ole Miss winner. Villanova won the game 71-65.

Ohio State vs California - Another game where a late rally has made it a little bit closer. I missed the beginning as was watching the ending in PR. But Ohio State has seemed to be in control the whole game. Now the Bears have scored 17 of 19 to close to within 9 with just over ten left. They have come a long way and I doubt they have enough left in them to get over the hump. Ohio State won the game 76-70.

San Jose State at Washington - Late night basketball from the West Coast. Isaiah Thomas entered with all the hoopla - as the fourth leading scorer in the country, but it was Quincy Pondexter who scored 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds that made the difference for the Huskies. San Jose State kept it close for most of the game as Adrian Oliver, a UW transfer led all scorers with 32. The Spartans seem good enough to make some noise in the WAC - as the Huskies are one of the few teams in the PAC-10 that have started well. They entered the season with their highest preseason ranking ever. Washington won the game 80-70.

College Football

Akron at Bowling Green - The Zips have taken a 10-7 lead in Bowling Green as the Family of Networks tour through the MAC continues tonight. Bowling Green won the game 36-20

Boise State at Utah State - I had a feeling going into this that Boise might have some trouble with the Aggies. The trouble didn't really last very long. The game was tied at 14 and Boise scored two quick touchdowns and added another before halftime to take a commanding 35-14 lead and the trouble was done. Boise seems unlikely to make a BCS Bowl without a TCU loss. The Broncs are solid but the schedule they've played in the WAC, even with the win over Oregon and the non-BCS affiliation is likely going to keep them out. Boise State won the game 52-21.
